TOPIC: UNDIFFERENTIATED ABDOMINAL PAIN IN THE GP SETTING

Learning Outcomes:

  • General Practitioners will learn how to examine signs and symptoms of common acute abdominal emergencies and formulate a management plan.
  • Explore the treatment options available for common non urgent abdominal illnesses
  • Understand which diagnostic tests should be ordered for common abdominal pain presentations. 
  • New diagnostic approaches that GP's can use for abdominal pain. 

General and Breast Surgeon 

Dr Robert George is a  Specialist Surgeon with additional fellowship training in Breast Surgery, Surgical Oncology and Emergency Surgery.
Dr George completed Medical School in 2007 as the University Medallist. After graduation he sought out experience in a variety of medical fields and subsequently focused on Surgical Training. His training was based at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney. During this time, he completed a Masters of Surgery and undertook a Scientific PhD in Stockholm, Sweden in 2017.Rob was awarded his Fellowship by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2020. He then completed three additional sub-specialty Fellowships in Emergency Surgery, Breast Surgery and Melanoma-Sarcoma-Endocrine surgery in centres at Royal North Shore Hospital, the Melanoma Institute of Australia and Prince of Wales Hospital.In addition to clinical work, Dr George continues to participate in medical research. He is a senior lecturer at the University of Sydney Medical School and Board Examiner.He believes in delivering high quality care via an approachable and personalised framework.

Emergency Physician

Dr Tom Wallis has a vast array of emergency medicine experience both in Australia and abroad.

Tom completed much of his training in the NHS. After becoming a consultant, Tom spent 5 years doing retrieval within Australia. He also spent 3 years at the Children's Hospital in Westmead and also spent time at Royal North Shore Hospital ED before becoming director at Mona Vale. More recently Dr Wallis was the Covid Lead at Northern Beaches Hospital in Sydney and recently appointed as Medical Director at WiSE in 2023.
