Join us for an engaging evening of clinical learning and discussion on complex rheumatological presentations commonly seen in urgent and primary care settings.
Presented by Prof David Kandiah, Dr Stuart Watkins and Dr Robert George, this session will explore practical diagnostic reasoning, key symptom recognition, patient-centred decision-making, and the powerful role of experiential clinical practice in real-world scenarios.
During this event, you’ll learn:
1. The medical consultation - how to optimise patient outcomes based on the medical conditions presenting and the background of the patient.
2. Key symptoms to help make accurate diagnostic and therapeutic plans.
3. Learn from your own experiences - You are an expert in your field of clinical practice, and Experiential-based practice can overrule Evidence-based practice and Academic Expert-based practice.

About Prof David Kandiah
Consultant Physician and Rheumatologist, Northern Beaches Rheumatology.
Clinical Professor, University of Western Australia.
Professor David Kandiah has a 41 year history in Medicine as an academic clinician, teacher and researcher. He graduated with Honours and the West Riding Panel Practitioners Prize in Clinical Medicine and University Medal from the University of Sheffield, England. In addition to specialist qualifications in Rheumatology and Internal medicine from Australia, United Kingdom and Singapore, he has completed 5 higher degrees incorporating research, graduating with Masters degrees in Public Health and Health Law from the University of Sydney; Master in Clinical Education and a Doctorate in Immunology and Protein Chemistry(Medicine) from the University of New South Wales and an International Master of Business Administration. He has a strong research interest in translational medical practice. He provides a specialist Rheumo-Immunology service to patients. He has also provided Telemedicine to patients in rural and regional Australia with complex rheumatic diseases. He also consults out of WiSE Macquarie Park and WiSE Gold Coast.
About Dr Stuart Watkins
Emergency Physician And Director, WiSE Gold Coast.
Dr Stuart Watkins is an Emergency Physician at the Gramold Coast University Hospital where he is the supervisor for the ED focused ultrasound program. A FACEM at Gold Coast University Hospital for the last 12 years, previously in Sydney at RNSH, Liverpool and Campbelltown (including training yrs) but originally from North Wales and an avid Liverpool Football supporter, Wales rugby and British Lions fan.
Professional interests in Fellowship exam preparation and ultrasound training. A member of ACEM networks on private practice, ultrasound and accreditation inspections. Member of examinations standard setting panel.
Currently the Director of WiSE Gold Coast, a walk-in specialist emergency clinic located in Robina, Dr Watkins works more than full-time across both the private clinic and the public hospital setting.
About Dr Robert George
Robert has a particular interest in Emergency Surgery, including acute abdominal pain and hernias. He also specialises in Surgical Oncology, including the management of Breast Cancer, Melanoma, and Skin Cancers. He maintains an interest in further research and the education of Medical Students and Junior Doctors. Dr George consults at WiSE fortnightly.
