CONCUSSION:
- Recognising concussions in kids: Spot the signs, know when to seek help, and learn how to manage concussions for safe recovery.
- Gradual return to play after concussions: Understand the step-by-step process to safely reintroduce kids to physical activity post-concussion.

ANKLE INJURIES:
- Preventing and managing ankle injuries: Learn strategies to prevent ankle injuries, and discover effective treatments and rehabilitation methods.

 MEET OUR PRESENTERS:

Dr Liz Swinburn – Emergency Specialist

Dr Liz Swinburn has been an emergency specialist for the past 20+ years. Dr Swinburn has done some time in retrieval with Westpac helicopter service prior to becoming director of Emergency at Mona Vale and then deputy director of emergency at Royal North Shore. Dr Swinburn also continues to be an emergency specialist in Katherine ED in the Northern Territory, Royal North Shore and at WiSE Macquarie Park. Dr Swinburn has also been the doctor for several international sporting teams including the Australian Opals Basketball, U16 Womens Soccer Team, and The NSW Waratahs. Liz has also been the match day concussion doctor for Rugby union matches. Liz continues to be club doctor for the Gordon Rugby union club.

Declan Drake - Fracture Clinic Physiotherapist – WiSE Macquarie Park

Declan is currently the lead physiotherapist for the WISE Macquarie Park Fracture Clinic, where he works closely alongside the orthopaedic team from Macquarie University Hospital. Declan is currently a physiotherapist for the Philippines Rugby 7’s team, and has previously worked with the Central Coast Mariners, supporting both their academy and A-League teams. Declan graduated from Newcastle University in 2019 and has a special interest in treating acute sporting injuries, including wrist, hand and finger fractures, as well as complex knee and ankle ligamentous injuries.

Shawn McDowell – Hand Therapist – WiSE Gold Coast

Since Shawn graduated from JCU he has worked on the Gold Coast within the Gold Coast Hospital and Health Service, and in Private Practice. Shawn is predominately works as a Certified Hand Therapist, working with those who have Hand and Upper Limb Injuries. This includes management &/or therapy for conditions including fractures, multi trauma, amputations, tendon/nerve/ligament repairs, carpal tunnel. Shawn works alongside the hand surgeon at WiSe Gold coast and helps treat many of those who have come through emergency with hand, finger and wrist injuries.
